1- Never Use "Keep Me Login In" :

If you are using Facebook in office, school, friend's home or at any public place ( internet cafe) then do not click on keep me login button. It can make your account less secure. Suppose if after login you do not remember to log out and you also checked to keep me login button then your account will remain open and any other person can access it. Anyhow if you are using your own computer or device then this button can be checked without any fear.

2- Do Not Use "Remember Password" :

This is similar to "keep me log in". According to settings of your browser, it asks to save password while login into account. Allow the browser to remember password only on your personal computer or mobile. Click on "never remember password" while login to public places. Anyone can get your password by using the "inspect element method" if the browser will remember the password.

3- Protect Facebook Account Password :

There have been times when people share their password with other FB users. This mistake leads to hacking their accounts. Do not share the password with others otherwise, you can create any trouble for yourself. If you think someone knows your account password then change it immediately.

4- Public Places Are Not Secure :

Public places (like Internet cafe, friend's computer etc) can be dangerous. Beware of login at such places. Your friend may be installed Keylogger or any other related software which save each and every word that you will type. Finally, the Facebook account will be the hack. If it is important to log in at such places then must change the password when you will again open the account on your own device.

5- Use Strong Password :

The long password can be used but the long password is not enough for your Facebook account security. Hackers use a method called "dictionary attack" and type each and every word of the English alphabet in the password box to open an account. Must use upper and lower case characters and symbols (! @ # $ % *). A password which includes upper, lower case letters, counting, and symbols will be very secure. Do not use your names, children names, phone numbers or any other common name as a password. It is a blunder. Use such words which anyone can not guess. Use the password strength checker website to check the strength of a password. You can also use password generator apps or sites like which can provide a strong password.

6- Changing Facebook Password Is Important :

Change your Facebook password once every 2 or 3 months to secure/protect the Facebook account from hackers. It is one of the important recommendations. A new password must be different than the first one.
For example: If your first password was "anything" then your next must not be "anything123". Do not use common words in a password like country name, city name, place, popular personalities. These are easy to guess and make account less secure.

7- Make Sure Your Email Is Secure :

Email(s) which are attached to Facebook must be secure. Do not sharethe password of email with anyone. If anyone got access to email then he/she can easily login to a Facebook account. Never use the same password for all accounts. Use different passwords for different sites like Gmail, Yahoo, FB, Twitter etc.

8- Third-Party App Can Harmful :

Some Facebook apps ask for permissions to see your birthday, phone number, email address, friend list and post on your timeline (on your behalf). Do not provide them with this access. These apps can make account less secure.
For example, Sweepstake app claims to complete profile, all activities, some of the profile and activities of your friends.
Review your permissions follow these instructions. Click on Apps on the left side of the Account Settings window. Now choose Edit to the right of the app's entry and click "Remove app" at the bottom of the entry. You can also report the app to let Facebook know the app is spam or requesting too much information.

Login only at If there is any other address in the address bar but a page is like FB homepage then it will be a phishing page. * Where you are logged in :

This is a very first option. In this option, Facebook tells your current and previous login locations along with device name. See all these devices. If one of them is not yours then click the "Logout" button which is under that device name.
Next section is "Login". Here you will see 2 options. First one is "Change Password". You can change your password here. Always choose a strong password as described above. The second option is "Login using your profile picture". This option can be enabled on personal computers or mobiles. But to make Facebook account secure do not enable this option.

* Get Alerts About Unrecognised Logins :

This is a very important step. You need to enable login notifications. Facebook will alert you by sending an email whenever your account will be open on the unknown devices, where you never login before. Facebook will tell about location, device name, browser and time. After getting these details you can guess who login your Facebook account. Now follow steps to enable this security. Go to Settings then Security and Login. Under the "Setting up extra security" section, you will see 'Get alerts about unrecognized logins' option. Edit this option and check two the boxes for both of the options that are available there. Below image is a screenshot, you can follow it.

* Use Two Factor Authentication (Login approvals) :

Under the "Setting up extra security" on security and login page, 2nd option is "Use two-factor authentication".  In this step, you make the Facebook account secure with a phone number.

 How it works? Whenever you or any other person will try to log in from an unknown device, Facebook will send a code to your given phone number. The account cannot be login without this code even you/other person typed the correct password. In other words, the account has secured even someone got your Facebook password. Is it amazing? Yes, it is.

 Now follow these step and enable this security feature. Go to Settings >> Security and Login >> Setting up extra security (section) >> Use two-factor authentication. Just click on "Edit" and check 'Require a security code to access my account from unknown browsers'. A pop-up box that reads 'Login Approvals is an extra layer of security that uses your phone to protect your account' will appear. Click on 'Get Started.' If you already added your phone number then Facebook will automatically send you a code via SMS. Otherwise, add a phone number and get the code. Enter this code in the given box and click Submit Code. You have completed this step successfully.

Next option is "Security keys" You need a USB in this step. It is not too important so it can be skipped. Next one is "Recovery codes" Click on get codes button and Facebook will provide you 10 codes. These codes can be used if you are login from an unknown device and you do not have your phone with you to receive login approval code. Last option in this section is "Authorised Logins". Here you can see a list which tells you when and where your account was logged in.

* Trusted contacts :

Add at least 3 people in trusted contacts. These people will help you if your account will be hacked. Go to the Settings >> Security and Login and look for "Choose 3 to 5 friends to contact if you are locked out" under the Setting up extra security section. Add at least 3 persons. You have done. Let's go to the next step.

* Download Your Data :

Download a copy of your Facebook data. Go to 'Settings >> General >> Download a copy. If you have been on Facebook for many years then you have so much data on it. If hacker deletes your account on Facebook, you will be in trouble. If you want to remember your memories, just download it as a copy of your data. Download your data once every 3 or 4 months.

* Who can see my Pieces of Stuff :

You can stop everyone to see your stuff. Go to Settings >> Privacy. You will see an option 'Who can see my stuff'. Just edit this option and change the option 'Friends of friends' to Friends (only). If you allow friends of friends see your pieces of stuff, people who are even your friends of friends can see them. One of the friends of friends may also be a hacker who can hack your account.

* Timeline and tagging :

Only allow tagging by your friends to protect the Facebook account from hacking. On the Settings page, click on 'Timeline and tagging' and change the option from 'Friends of friends' to 'Friends (only).' If you want friends of friends to tag too, you can choose that option, but doing this will make your account less secure.

11- Add Only Known Persons :

Hacker may be on your friend list. Add only known people to protect the Facebook account from hacking. This is a trend on Facebook to add more and more people. Do not send a request to each and every person that you see. Do not be a part of this trend otherwise, your account will be less secure. Facebook is very serious and strict about adding friends. They can ban your account if you will add an unknown person.

12- Use Anti-Virus Software :

Use of anti-virus software makes your computer and other devices more secure and protect from the virus, hacking attacks. Use a good anti-virus like Norton, Avast, AVG,  on your PC and mobile devices. Anti-Virus software protects you against virus attacks, block websites if they contain any harmful material (sending malware & virus). They also tell if a site is trying to steal data via phishing.
